We Are Growing (Up)
We have just released updated pricing tiers for all CM Commerce Premium users and wanted to take this opportunity to communicate some of the context that was relevant to these changes.
So what are the changes?
We updated the pricing tiers to have more granularity. So instead of the four Premium tiers we had in the past (Hobby, Startup, Professional & Business), we now have quite a few more tiers.
The features available on the old and the new tiers have not changed at all though; as before, all Premium functionality is available to all CM Commerce Premium customers regardless of their chosen tier.
Click here to view the new pricing tiers.

Note about existing Premium customers: If you are currently subscribed to an âoldâ tier, you will be able to stay on that tier until 31 December 2016. On 1 January 2017, all existing Premium customers will be moved to a corresponding new tier. In the meantime, you could switch voluntarily if it makes sense for you to do so (a new tier might be cheaper based on your usage).
Why did we make the changes?
When we first started discussing tweaks to our pricing, we agreed that we wanted to achieve these goals:
- Make the tiers more usage-based, which meant adding greater granularity to the tiers and also implementing automatic up- and downgrading based on actual usage.
- Keep things the same for as many customers as possible, which means that the changes should not make CM Commerce Premium more expensive for any existing customers. (For 99% of current CM Commerce Premium customers, their monthly subscription will stay the same or be less with the new tiers.)
- Donât reduce our revenue significantly overnight. We experimented with various tiers / payment scales and the one we decided to implement had the least effect on our revenue: if all Premium customers switched to the new tiers immediately, our revenue would decrease by about 4%.
But whatâs the bigger picture?
These pricing changes are ultimately just a single decision within a much bigger consideration. Since you – as users and customers of CM Commerce – are significant stakeholders in that consideration, we wanted to share our thoughts, ideas and vision in this regard.
We first launched CM Commerce Premium in July last year with the introduction of Follow-Up Emails. Since then weâve released many new features that have become available to Premium customers and that have helped them generate more additional revenue via CM Commerce tools. To help visualize this, we created this page in your dashboard, which shows all of our bigger releases and how the value thereof has grown.
During this time, we have not increased Premium prices which means that it has become relatively cheaper (in terms of the cost versus available tools and value). This is an important endeavor for us, because itâs something that weâd like to continue doing in future: add relatively more value to your CM Commerce experience and usage without making sweeping changes to our pricing.
We have seen widespread adoption of CM Commerce Premium recently (Thank you!) and currently have about 1700 Premium customers. This has helped us grow our business to marginal (monthly) profitability in recent months. Whatâs most important is that we have reinvested those funds and grown our team to 13 people, who are here to help you get as much value from CM Commerce and ultimately to help grow your business.
In the past year, weâve taken many steps to help us build a long-term, sustainable business, because we want to be around as long as possible to serve you. The very last thing that we want is for you to wake up one morning and for CM Commerce (previously Receiptful) to suddenly not be available.
Late last year we made the decision not to raise further venture funding in favor of seeking profitability, which has given us independence to serve you in the best way possible for as long as possible.
These pricing changes were considered and made with that same spirit. It helps us grow and scale our business to help you more.
